Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has revealed that the provincial government is considering summer holidays for schools from May 22 to August 2, with a final decision expected to be announced on May 11. The proposal is currently under review as officials assess weather conditions, the academic calendar, and the overall needs of students and educational institutions across the province.
According to the minister, the proposed schedule is designed to maintain a balance between academic continuity and student well-being during the intense summer season. Rising temperatures in Punjab often make classroom conditions difficult, particularly in schools with limited cooling facilities. The government aims to provide relief to students while ensuring that the academic year remains properly structured and educational standards are maintained.
In addition to regular holidays, authorities are also exploring the idea of introducing summer camps during the break. These camps are expected to focus on learning support, creative activities, personality development, and extracurricular engagement. Officials believe such programs could help students remain mentally active and productive while also giving them opportunities to develop new skills outside traditional classroom settings.
The education department emphasized that the plan is not only about giving students time to rest but also about encouraging balanced growth. Summer camps could include activities related to arts, sports, technology, reading, and leadership development, helping students make better use of their vacation period.
Parents, teachers, and students are now waiting for the official notification expected on May 11. If approved, the extended break would provide students across Punjab with a chance to recover from academic pressure, avoid extreme heat conditions, and return to school refreshed for the next academic session.
The proposed plan reflects the government’s effort to combine education, student welfare, and personal development into a more structured and student-friendly academic environment.
