Somalia has finalized a major defence agreement with Pakistan for the purchase of up to 24 JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets, in a deal reportedly valued at around $900 million.
This marks one of the most significant military acquisitions in Somalia’s recent history, reflecting a strong push to modernize its air force and strengthen national defence capabilities.
The JF-17 Thunder Block III is considered a next-generation fighter aircraft. It features advanced avionics, modern radar systems, and enhanced combat performance, enabling it to carry out multiple mission types including air-to-air combat, ground strikes, and surveillance operations.
