Whether in times of war, natural disasters, or national crises, the army has always been there to protect and serve its people. The army is not only tasked with safeguarding borders but also plays a crucial role in internal security and stability. Over the years, its proactive approach in handling emergency situations, providing relief to citizens, and helping rebuild communities has earned the trust of the public. Pakistan’s history is marked by moments when the army stepped in to ensure the country’s survival, especially during times of crisis when other institutions struggled to cope. Its officers are not only highly educated and trained but are professional as well that can help reshape the country’s struggling economy.
The Pakistan Army’s ability to remain functional and focused despite the various challenges the country faces set it apart. Political instability, economic unrest, and external threats have all put pressure on the nation, yet the army has been a reliable force throughout. Its involvement in both external defense and internal matters, from fighting terrorism to aiding in flood relief operations, earthquakes, demonstrates its usefulness and capability. The sense of discipline and unity within the army makes it stand out as an example of how an institution can operate efficiently, even in the face of adversity. This has led many to view the army as a guardian not only of national security but also of the overall well-being of the people. We should also not forget how the Army has fought 4 major wars and several internal wars to protect our nation.
Recently, the Pakistan Army Chief (General Asim Munir) met with key members of the business community in Karachi. The meeting was held against the backdrop of economic challenges that the country has been facing for some time now. With inflation rising and businesses struggling to cope with various issues, this meeting came as a sign of hope for many. During the discussions, several issues were raised by the business leaders, including concerns over the economic slowdown, taxation policies, and security concerns that affect business operations in Karachi. The army chief listened carefully to their concerns and assured the business community that the military is committed to helping find solutions to these problems. The COAS appreciated the contributions of businesspersons, traders and entrepreneurs to the country’s economic growth. He pointed out that the economy had improved in the past year as the rupee-dollar exchange rate had stabilized and inflation reduced. The COAS also appreciated the role of friendly countries, especially China, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in helping Pakistan’s economic recovery.
The army chief’s assurance to the business community reflects the Pakistan Army’s broader commitment to national stability. He pointed out that ensuring a secure environment for business and investment is crucial to Pakistan’s progress. While the army’s primary role is to defend the nation, it also recognizes the importance of a stable economy in maintaining overall security. This acknowledgment of the connection between security and economic prosperity shows the military’s understanding of the broader picture. In this meeting, the army chief also addressed the importance of law and order in Karachi, which has historically been a hub for economic activity. He promised to take necessary actions to improve the security situation in the city, making it easier for businesses to operate smoothly. General Asim Munir stated, “Our hearts beat for Karachi,” and stressed that the military remains dedicated to supporting the city’s development. He also highlighted that business enterprises run by the military contribute around Rs 400 billion annually to the national treasury.
The army’s involvement in addressing the concerns of the business community is not an isolated event. Over the years, the Pakistan Army has frequently stepped in to support the civilian government in tackling various challenges. In addition, he asked and stressed businessmen to take their money back to Pakistan and invest here in different projects that can benefit the economy. Moreover, he also shared good news that in the coming year, the interest rate will be under single digit and fuel prices will be reduced.
