Punjab Police launched one of the largest traffic enforcement operations to date, seizing over 12,000 vehicles and collecting Rs. 6.3 crore in fines within just 24 hours. The crackdown, carried out across all major cities and districts, is part of the government’s renewed push to improve road safety and enforce long-ignored traffic rules.
According to official data, more than 50,000 challans were issued in a single day, targeting violations such as driving without a license, riding motorcycles without helmets, one-way breaches, overspeeding, and dangerous driving. Authorities also confirmed that over 3,000 individuals were arrested for serious traffic offences that posed immediate risks to public safety.
The aggressive enforcement drive aims to curb the rising number of road accidents, particularly those involving underage and unlicensed drivers. Punjab’s traffic police have stated that strict action will continue in the coming days, with enhanced monitoring at checkpoints, round-the-clock patrolling, and deployment of additional wardens.
Officials emphasized that the crackdown is not meant to punish citizens, but to enforce life-saving rules and instill long-term discipline on the roads. The provincial government has also directed traffic authorities to couple enforcement with awareness campaigns, encouraging the public to adopt safe driving habits and comply with legal requirements such as obtaining proper licenses.
