Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif delivered an emotional and inspiring address at the inauguration of the Kashmir Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiology (KINOR) in Muzaffarabad, highlighting the importance of accessible and compassionate healthcare for cancer patients.
Recalling his personal experience, the prime minister shared that he is a cancer survivor and was fortunate to afford expensive treatment more than twenty years ago. He emphasized that many patients, especially those from remote and underdeveloped areas, face immense hardship and often struggle to meet even their basic needs, making access to specialized cancer treatment extremely difficult.
“There is no greater service to suffering humanity than treating patients at such a critical stage of illness,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. He praised the doctors, medical staff, and administration involved in establishing the institute, calling their efforts remarkable and deeply commendable.
The prime minister urged healthcare authorities to take stronger and faster steps in the fight against cancer by embracing innovation, teamwork, and dedication. He stressed that modern medical facilities like KINOR play a crucial role in saving lives and must remain at the forefront of research and treatment.
Most importantly, he emphasized that such healthcare facilities must operate round the clock, ensuring that every patient is welcomed with hope, dignity, and compassion. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding quality healthcare services, particularly in underserved regions, so that no patient is denied treatment due to financial or geographical barriers.
The inauguration of KINOR in Muzaffarabad marks a significant milestone in strengthening cancer care in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities closer to patients’ homes.
