The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released an early forecast regarding the expected start of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. According to preliminary astronomical estimates, the first fast is likely to be observed on Thursday, 19 February 2026, subject to official moon sighting.
PMD officials stated that the Ramadan moon will be born on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at 5:01 pm. By the evening of 18 February, the moon’s age will exceed 26 hours, which significantly increases the chances of visibility.
Experts noted that conditions in Karachi and surrounding coastal areas are expected to be favorable for moon sighting, as the sunset and moonset timings align well for clear visibility. Similar conditions may also support moon sighting in other parts of the country, depending on weather and atmospheric clarity.

Despite these early projections, authorities emphasized that the final announcement regarding the start of Ramadan will be made only after official moon sighting and confirmation by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, in accordance with religious guidelines.
The PMD regularly shares advance astronomical data to help the public and institutions prepare, but stressed that religious confirmation remains essential before the official start of the holy month.
Muslims across Pakistan are advised to await the official decision before making final Ramadan arrangements.
