Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has acknowledged delays in the Rs200 billion Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project while announcing a broader development plan aimed at improving Karachi’s infrastructure in the coming years. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Azeempura Flyover, Wahab said that despite delays, efforts are ongoing to complete major transport and infrastructure projects across the city.
He stated that the year 2026 will be dedicated to large-scale development initiatives. According to Wahab, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is planning to allocate between Rs70 billion and Rs75 billion for infrastructure upgrades and city improvement projects. These funds will be used for road construction, flyovers, drainage improvements, and other public facilities needed to support Karachi’s growing population.

The mayor highlighted that improving traffic flow and reducing congestion remain top priorities for the city administration. Projects like the Azeempura Flyover and the Red Line BRT are part of broader efforts to modernize Karachi’s transport system and provide better commuting options for residents.
Murtaza Wahab also explained that multiple development authorities are currently working independently on different projects in Karachi. He noted that the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and the Ministry of Communications Pakistan are managing their own infrastructure and development initiatives, which will also contribute to the city’s overall progress.
He emphasized that coordinated efforts between local and federal institutions are necessary to improve urban infrastructure. According to Wahab, these development plans aim to make Karachi more accessible, modern, and better equipped to handle future growth and transportation demands.
