Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Pakistan Television (PTV).
Upon his arrival, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by senior Iranian officials and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who had already reached Tehran ahead of the funeral ceremonies. The visit reflects Pakistan’s participation in the official mourning ceremonies being held for the late Iranian leader.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also departed for Iran to attend the funeral, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed. The prime minister is leading Pakistan’s official delegation to express condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.

The funeral is expected to be attended by senior government officials, heads of state, diplomats, and representatives from several countries, making it one of the largest international gatherings in the region.
Pakistan and Iran share longstanding diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties, and the participation of Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership underscores the importance Islamabad places on its relationship with Tehran.
During the visit, Pakistani officials are also expected to meet their Iranian counterparts on the sidelines of the funeral ceremonies. Such interactions often provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments, border cooperation, trade, and other issues of mutual interest.
The funeral ceremonies have drawn significant international attention, with delegations from across the region arriving in Tehran to pay their respects.
Pakistan has previously expressed condolences over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining close and friendly relations with Iran.
The presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the funeral highlights Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during this period of national mourning and reflects the longstanding diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries.
