Dubai-based DP World has announced plans to develop a new port and container terminal in Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast, aiming to strengthen global trade routes and reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. The new facility will enable cargo to move directly through the Gulf of Oman, providing an alternative shipping route for international trade.
The project comes amid growing regional tensions that have raised concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest and most strategically important maritime chokepoints. By expanding logistics infrastructure outside the strait, the UAE hopes to improve supply chain resilience and minimize the risk of future trade disruptions.

While Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port will remain the country’s primary commercial hub, the Fujairah project is expected to complement existing operations by enhancing cargo handling capacity and offering greater flexibility for global shipping.
