The Lahore Mass Transit Authority has officially discontinued the traditional token and card system for the city’s Orange Line Metro Train, Speedo buses, and Metro Bus services as part of its transition to a fully digital fare payment system.
According to the authority, passengers will no longer be able to use the old transport cards or paper tokens. Instead, commuters can now pay their fares using the T-Cash Card, the official mobile application, or ATM/debit cards, making travel more convenient and aligned with modern digital payment methods.
Officials have also announced that unused balances on the old transport cards will not be refunded. Cardholders who return their old cards at designated stations will receive only the Rs. 130 security deposit, regardless of the remaining balance stored on the card. Passengers have been advised to surrender their old cards at the relevant transit stations to claim the refundable security amount.

However, the decision has sparked concerns among commuters. Several passengers have complained that they were still allowed to recharge their old cards even after the authority decided to discontinue the system. Many also claimed that no prior public notification was issued regarding the policy change, leaving them unaware that the cards would soon become obsolete.
The Mass Transit Authority says the move is part of a broader effort to modernize Lahore’s public transportation network by introducing faster, safer, and more efficient cashless payment solutions. Authorities are expected to continue promoting digital payment options to improve the commuting experience for millions of daily passengers across the city’s mass transit system.
