The federal government has approved the printing of newly designed currency note after receiving formal authorization from the federal cabinet. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House.
Under the approved plan, fresh designs will be introduced for four banknote denominations: Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 5,000. These new currency notes are being developed in accordance with modern international standards, with the involvement of international experts to verify and ensure the quality, security, and global compatibility of the designs.

The redesigned notes will feature enhanced security threads and advanced anti-counterfeiting measures to provide stronger protection against forgery and illegal reproduction. The artwork on the notes will reflect Pakistan’s rich regional and geographical diversity, as well as its historical landmarks. In addition, the designs will incorporate important national and global themes, including women’s contribution to national development and awareness of climate change.
To ensure a thorough review before the public rollout, the cabinet has also approved the formation of a special cabinet committee. This committee will examine the proposed designs, security features, and overall implementation process before giving final clearance.
According to official sources, the new currency notes are expected to be introduced by the end of 2026, most likely during November or December. The initiative aims to modernize Pakistan’s currency system, improve security, and present a contemporary national identity through updated banknote designs.
