Islamabad has emerged as the leading candidate to host the next round of technical negotiations between the United States and Iran, with diplomatic sources indicating that the talks are expected to take place on July 11 under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to diplomatic sources, Islamabad and Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort are being considered as potential venues, although Pakistan’s capital is currently viewed as the frontrunner.
The upcoming discussions are expected to focus on several key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets, regional security, the Strait of Hormuz, and the implementation of the recently agreed Lebanon ceasefire.

The technical talks were reportedly delayed due to the state funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During the pause in negotiations, Pakistan and Qatar continued facilitating indirect diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran.
Officials believe the technical meeting could help pave the way for another round of high-level US-Iran negotiations, which are expected to take place in Doha later this month.
If confirmed, hosting the talks would further highlight Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue on key regional and international issues.
