Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Rs. 11 billion to support Pakistan’s hosting of the 14th South Asian Games in March 2027, marking the country’s return as host after 22 years.
The government has directed authorities to begin preparations immediately, including the upgrading of sports stadiums, improvement of logistics, and the establishment of a dedicated Games Secretariat in Islamabad to oversee the event.
More than 3,500 athletes from eight South Asian nations are expected to participate in 27 sporting disciplines, with competitions scheduled to take place in Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.

Officials believe the South Asian Games will provide an opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s sporting infrastructure, promote regional cooperation through sports, and offer a valuable platform for emerging athletes to compete at an international level.
The 2027 edition is expected to be one of the largest multi-sport events hosted by Pakistan in recent years, reflecting the government’s commitment to reviving international sporting events and strengthening the country’s presence on the regional sports stage.
