The Lahore Traffic Police have announced a renewed citywide crackdown against professional beggars at traffic signals as part of efforts to improve traffic management, public safety, and the overall image of the city.
According to official instructions issued by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, divisional SPs and circle officers have been directed to ensure that no child, woman, elderly person, or transgender individual is seen begging at traffic signals across Lahore. The operation aims to remove organized begging networks that often disrupt traffic flow and create safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.
The CTO also instructed Safe City traffic monitoring teams to continuously monitor traffic signals and provide real-time updates to field officers. This coordination is expected to help authorities respond quickly and carry out enforcement operations more effectively.
To strengthen the campaign, the Lahore Traffic Police have formed special enforcement teams and arranged large buses to transport individuals detained during the operation. Officials stated that the initiative targets professional begging networks rather than people genuinely in need of assistance.

Authorities further revealed that they are working with NADRA to verify the identities of detained individuals. After biometric verification, cases and First Information Reports (FIRs) will be registered against those found involved in organized begging activities or repeat violations of the law.
In addition to the anti-begging campaign, the CTO warned that strict legal action will also be taken against individuals who tamper with or damage traffic signals during nighttime, as such activities pose serious risks to road safety and public property.
The Lahore Traffic Police have urged citizens to cooperate with the ongoing campaign and avoid encouraging professional begging by giving money at traffic intersections. Officials believe that coordinated enforcement, public awareness, and support from relevant institutions will help improve traffic conditions and reduce organized begging across the city.
