Murree once again witnessed a massive rush of visitors on Independence Day, as over 53,000 tourist vehicles entered the hill station even though the town has parking space for only 5,000 vehicles.
According to the City Traffic Police, the flow of tourists has remained high since August 14. To manage the rush, more than 200 traffic police officers were deployed across the city to guide visitors and maintain smooth traffic flow.

Officials explained that although 53,000 vehicles entered Murree, many also left the town at the same time. This meant that at any given moment, between 6,000 and 9,000 vehicles were present inside Murree.
The traffic police took several steps to ensure safety. Driving licences were checked at entry points, and motorcyclists without helmets were stopped from entering. On Independence Day, single men without families were not allowed to enter Mall Road, a popular tourist spot.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar and Traffic Officer Murree Sohail Shahzad personally monitored the arrangements. They confirmed that all roads remained open and traffic was moving, though areas like GPO Chowk faced unusual pressure due to pedestrian crowds.
Authorities also distributed awareness pamphlets to remind tourists about road safety. Visitors were advised to use only official parking spaces, avoid double-lane driving, and strictly follow the instructions of wardens.
In view of ongoing monsoon rains, a special advisory was also issued. Tourists were urged to check the condition of their vehicles, ensure wipers and lights were working, and avoid overspeeding on sharp turns and slippery roads. The CTO further directed that no vehicles should be parked on the roadside for photography, as this causes blockages.
Despite the overwhelming number of vehicles against the limited parking capacity, the traffic police said they are making every possible effort to keep Murree safe and enjoyable for families.
