Pakistan and Iran have agreed to accelerate efforts to expand agricultural trade and strengthen cooperation in key sectors including livestock, food security, agricultural research, and trade facilitation. The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Iran’s Agriculture Minister, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing economic ties and converting existing agreements into practical outcomes that benefit farmers, traders, and consumers in both countries.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted his official visit to Iran in 2025, where both nations agreed to increase bilateral trade in important agricultural products. He noted that Iran has shown strong interest in importing Pakistani rice, mangoes, and meat, emphasizing that Pakistan has the capacity to supply high-quality agricultural products to the Iranian market.
The Iranian Agriculture Minister stated that Tehran plans to increase meat imports from Pakistan and believes Pakistan can meet up to 60 percent of Iran’s total meat import requirements. He praised the quality of Pakistani livestock and stressed the importance of efficient trade mechanisms to ensure a stable supply chain.

Both countries also reviewed progress on previous commitments and agreed that the targets outlined in their joint communiqué would be implemented within the next two months. Relevant authorities were directed to remove trade barriers, speed up procedural requirements, and improve coordination between technical experts and institutions.
The ministers agreed to hold regular committee meetings to monitor progress and strengthen cooperation. They also emphasized that enhanced agricultural collaboration would contribute to regional food security, increased investment, technology transfer, and sustainable economic growth.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing satisfaction over the positive direction of Pakistan-Iran relations and reaffirming their commitment to unlocking the full potential of agricultural trade and regional connectivity.
