Pakistan and Russia have agreed to develop a joint strategy to counter terrorist networks operating across the region, with a particular focus on threats emerging from Afghanistan. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev on the sidelines of the 5th United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS-2026).
According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, the two leaders discussed the evolving regional security environment and explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several key areas. These included counterterrorism, counter-narcotics operations, cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and law enforcement training.
Both sides also considered the possibility of conducting joint police exercises to improve operational coordination and preparedness. Officials emphasized the need for a coordinated regional response to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance cross-border security cooperation.
The meeting reflects the growing security partnership between Pakistan and Russia as both countries seek to address common regional challenges, including terrorism, organized crime, and cyber threats. Strengthening institutional cooperation between law enforcement agencies is expected to improve intelligence exchange, capacity building, and coordinated action against transnational criminal groups.
The discussions underscore the commitment of both nations to promoting regional peace and stability through closer security collaboration and practical measures aimed at tackling shared threats.
