Halal Meat Export Policy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Pakistan’s Halal Meat Export Policy, aiming to strengthen the country’s presence in the fast-growing global halal market. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting focused on expanding exports and improving standards across the halal meat value chain.

During the meeting, the prime minister directed relevant authorities to prepare a comprehensive three-year export strategy within two weeks. He stressed the importance of close coordination between federal ministries and provincial governments to ensure smooth implementation of the policy and achieve measurable results.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to upgrade slaughterhouses, cold storage facilities, and transportation systems to meet international standards. He underlined that improving hygiene, traceability, and processing practices is essential to gain and retain access to global markets. Ensuring internationally recognized halal certification and compliance with food safety requirements was highlighted as a top priority.

The prime minister noted that there is strong global demand for halal meat, not only in Muslim-majority countries but also in non-Muslim markets, where halal products are increasingly valued for their quality and safety standards. He said Pakistan’s large livestock base and significant annual halal meat production provide a strong foundation to expand exports and earn valuable foreign exchange.

He further instructed officials to study and adopt best international business and export models, including public-private partnerships, to improve competitiveness and attract investment in the sector. The government aims to modernize the industry, reduce wastage, and support value-added exports rather than relying only on raw or low-value products.

The approval of the Halal Meat Export Policy reflects the government’s broader strategy to diversify exports, boost economic growth, and create jobs. Officials believe that with proper planning, modern infrastructure, and global certification, Pakistan can become a leading supplier of halal meat to international markets.
