The Punjab Arts Council has officially announced a province-wide suspension of all theatre performances from 1st to 13th Muharram-ul-Haram, in observance of the sacred religious period.
According to the notification, all stage dramas, cultural shows, and related entertainment activities will remain completely halted during this time. Theatre owners and operators have been strictly instructed to comply with the directive without exception.
The decision has been taken to ensure respect for the sanctity of Muharram and to allow citizens to observe religious traditions with dignity and solemnity. Authorities emphasized that public entertainment events are not appropriate during this period of mourning and reflection.
Meanwhile, security arrangements across Punjab and other parts of the country are being finalized ahead of Youm-e-Ashura. Provincial governments and district administrations are reviewing routes for processions and gatherings (majalis) to ensure smooth and peaceful observance.

Law enforcement agencies, including police and other security units, will be deployed at sensitive locations. Additional personnel are being assigned to maintain law and order, manage crowds, and respond to any emergencies that may arise during the religious period.
Officials have also confirmed that emergency response plans will remain active throughout Muharram to ensure public safety and to provide a secure environment for mourners participating in religious processions and gatherings.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, order, and respect for religious sentiments across the province during this important period.
