The Punjab government is set to present its Budget 2026-27 in the provincial assembly today, with a strong focus expected on development projects, public welfare schemes, and infrastructure expansion across the province.
According to proposed figures, the total size of the Punjab budget is estimated to exceed Rs. 5,131 billion, reflecting a significant allocation for both ongoing and new initiatives. Officials indicate that development spending and investment-driven programs will remain a key priority.
For special development and investment initiatives, around Rs. 752 billion is proposed, compared to higher allocations in previous years. The budget is also expected to emphasize education, healthcare, digital governance, and rural development as core areas of focus.
In the education sector, allocations may reach around Rs. 700 billion or more, with continued emphasis on out-of-school children programs, school infrastructure upgrades, laptop schemes, classroom expansion, and teacher recruitment.
The health sector is also likely to receive increased funding of approximately Rs. 550 billion or above, with priority projects including field hospitals, mobile clinics (Clinic on Wheels), free medicines, and improvements in district healthcare facilities.
For law and order, over Rs. 200 billion is expected to be allocated for police and security-related expenditures to strengthen public safety across the province.
Meanwhile, local government programs focusing on rural roads, water supply, sanitation, and village development schemes are also expected to receive a substantial share of the budget.
Authorities have indicated that the budget may be “pro-people” and potentially tax-friendly, with discussions ongoing regarding relief measures for government employees following the federal budget announcements. Major flagship projects under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s development vision are also expected to receive dedicated funding.
