For the first time in Punjab’s history, families can now use Rescue 1122 ambulance service free of cost for the انتقال of a deceased person from hospital to home. This service will operate in all districts of Punjab and will cover both inter-city and intra-city transfers.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated this dead body shifting service to support grieving families during difficult times. Many families face serious problems when arranging transport for a loved one who has passed away in a hospital. Private vehicles often charge high rates, and poor families struggle to afford these costs. Keeping this issue in mind, the Punjab government has made it mandatory for every hospital to provide at least one ambulance for this purpose.
Under this new system, victims’ families can contact the hospital counter directly to request the ambulance. In case of emergency or delay, they can also call 1122 for immediate assistance. The Rescue 1122 team will ensure safe and respectful shifting of the dead body from the hospital to the family’s home.

The service is available across Punjab, including city-to-city transfers. Whether the hospital is located in a big city like Lahore or in a small tehsil, the ambulance service will provide equal support. The government has directed that in every tehsil, there must be at least one vehicle dedicated to transporting bodies from hospital to home.
To ensure transparency and proper monitoring, the service will be supervised through a Smart Parking Management System. This system will track ambulance movement and performance to avoid misuse and delays. Authorities have also discussed setting official rates for private companies that want to invest in vehicles for this service in the future. However, the government has confirmed that the Rescue 1122 shifting service will remain free of cost for the public.
This initiative is being seen as a major relief for families in Punjab. It reflects the government’s commitment to public service and dignity for the deceased. By providing free ambulance service for dead body transfer, Punjab has taken an important step to support citizens in their most painful moments.
