The Sindh government has introduced new working hours regulations under its latest austerity policy, aiming to manage energy use and improve administrative efficiency across the province, including Karachi. According to the official notification, several essential services such as bakeries, milk shops, medical stores, laboratories, clinics, hospitals, and petrol pumps have been fully exempted from these restrictions, allowing them to operate without time limitations.
Under the new rules, there will be different closing timings depending on location. In districts across Sindh, except divisional headquarters, shops, markets, and shopping malls will now close at 8:00 PM. However, in divisional headquarters such as Karachi, business centers will be allowed to remain open until 9:00 PM. This step is aimed at balancing public convenience with the government’s cost-saving measures.

The policy also includes specific instructions for food-related businesses. Hotels and food outlets will be permitted to operate from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM, ensuring that evening dining services remain available for citizens. At the same time, home delivery and takeaway services will continue without any restrictions, helping customers maintain access to food services beyond closing hours.
Marriage halls and banquet facilities have also received clear guidelines. They will be allowed to host events from 8:00 PM to 12:00 midnight, providing flexibility for social gatherings while still maintaining regulated hours. The government has emphasized that these instructions apply immediately and will remain in effect throughout the week, including weekends.
Officials have stated that this policy is part of a broader effort to promote energy conservation and financial discipline within the province. By adjusting business hours, the government aims to reduce electricity consumption and operational costs while still ensuring that essential services remain uninterrupted for the public.
The new schedule is expected to affect daily routines in both urban and rural areas. While some businesses may face challenges in adjusting to earlier closing times, authorities believe that the long-term benefits will support economic stability and better resource management across Sindh.
