The Punjab government has announced a major initiative to strengthen tax collection by introducing digital monitoring systems at marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and restaurants across the province. The move is aimed at reducing tax evasion, improving transparency, and modernizing the revenue collection process.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where officials reviewed provincial revenue performance and discussed measures to make the tax system more technology-driven.
Under the new plan, modern camera systems will be installed at marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and major restaurant chains to monitor business activity. The government is also considering mandatory digital payment options at selected restaurants to ensure proper documentation of transactions and reduce unreported cash sales.

Officials stated that businesses found issuing fake receipts, hiding sales, or avoiding taxes will face strict legal action. Authorities believe the use of advanced monitoring technology will help identify irregularities, improve compliance, and increase tax revenue.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward tax evasion. She said technology will play a key role in building a more efficient, transparent, and accountable tax system throughout Punjab.
During the meeting, officials revealed that Punjab has set a revenue target of Rs. 528.5 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27. They also highlighted the strong performance of the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), whose collections have increased from Rs. 250 billion to Rs. 346 billion, representing a growth of 38 percent.
The PRA has also expanded its operational network from 10 districts to 26 districts. In addition, dedicated intelligence, investigation, taxpayer audit, and legal departments have been established to strengthen enforcement and improve tax administration.
The digital monitoring initiative is expected to enhance transparency, improve revenue collection, and support the government’s broader efforts to modernize Punjab’s tax system through technology and stronger regulatory oversight.
