Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced the “Apna Ghar, Mehfooz Ghar” (My Home, Safe Home) program to improve housing safety and help prevent tragedies caused by unsafe residential structures.
Under the new initiative, homeowners will be eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs. 1 million to construct an additional floor on their homes in a safe and approved manner. The government will also provide up to Rs. 500,000 to repair or reinforce damaged, old, or structurally weak roofs.
The program has been launched in response to incidents involving building collapses, including the recent Kahna tragedy, with the aim of promoting safer housing conditions across Punjab.
Officials say the initiative is designed to support low- and middle-income families who may not have the financial resources to upgrade or repair their homes. By providing direct financial assistance, the government hopes to reduce the risk of accidents caused by deteriorating structures and improve public safety.

The Punjab government believes the scheme will encourage safer construction practices while helping families strengthen their homes, protect their loved ones, and reduce the chances of future building-related disasters.
