NCCIA and UMT Sign Historic MoU to Strengthen Cybersecurity, Digital Defense, and Research in Pakistan

In Lahore, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the University of Management and Technology (UMT) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting cybersecurity, digital defense, and advanced research in Pakistan.

The agreement was formally signed by NCCIA Director Muhammad Ali Wasim and UMT Dean Dr. Atif Alvi, marking an important step toward strengthening collaboration between law enforcement and academia in the field of cyber technology.

Under this partnership, both institutions will work together on joint research and development (R&D) projects focused on enhancing cybersecurity capabilities and addressing emerging digital threats. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical cyber defense strategies.

As part of the “Tech 2.0” initiative, students will receive guidance and hands-on exposure in advanced areas such as blockchain technology, cloud computing, and malware analysis. This is expected to equip young professionals with modern technical skills required in the evolving digital landscape.

In addition, NCCIA representatives will become part of the UMT advisory board to help modernize and update the cybersecurity curriculum. This collaboration aims to ensure that academic programs remain aligned with industry needs and global standards.

Officials from both sides emphasized that the partnership will play a vital role in building a stronger cybersecurity ecosystem in Pakistan. They highlighted that increasing digital threats require continuous innovation, skilled professionals, and close cooperation between institutions.

The MoU is being seen as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and prepare the next generation of cybersecurity experts.
