Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to personally teach one class every week in a government school as part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen the education system and improve direct engagement with students and teachers.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting on education sector reforms, where the chief minister reviewed the progress of various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education across Punjab. She emphasized that policymakers should remain closely connected with classrooms to better understand the challenges faced by students, teachers, and school administrations.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz also ordered a comprehensive review of the digital registration system for private schools. She instructed officials to develop a modern mechanism for the registration and digital mapping of tuition centres across the province. The initiative is intended to improve regulation, enhance transparency, and ensure that educational institutions meet required standards.
Officials informed the chief minister that the government’s ambitious target of enrolling 4.3 million students in public schools has been successfully achieved. The milestone reflects ongoing efforts to increase access to education and encourage higher enrollment in government institutions throughout Punjab.
In another significant decision, Maryam Nawaz approved digital salary payments for teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). The move is expected to improve transparency, ensure timely salary disbursement, and simplify the payment process for thousands of educators.
